Full Job Description: https://functional.works-hub.com/jobs/risk-tool-developer-c70

Role: Risk Tool Developer Location: Cambridge, UK Salary: £30-40k Company: University of Cambridge

Role Overview

The Winton Centre for Risk and Evidence Communication is a unique and small team at the University of Cambridge dedicated to the clear communication of numbers. We work with the organisations like the NHS, government departments, journalists and others who want to communicate numbers clearly. We make all our work Open Source.

We need a full stack web developer who wants to work in Clojure or ClojureScript. You would be responsible for helping produce our web-based projects, such as the internationally-renowned Predict websites (e.g.https://breast.predict.nhs.uk). This will involve developing client-side tools for the presentation of numbers based on algorithms supplied by statistician. A key part of this role will be to generalise these tools so they are data driven and easily configurable for use in many other medical risk models. You will be keen to design open-source solutions that are simple to understand, maintain, and test.

You would be working with the technical lead to produce and deliver these sorts of projects to schedule in a technically stable and secure way, and with the professional psychologists in the team to understand how users interact with the interfaces and hence how to improve them.

The ideal candidate will be someone who wants to exercise their functional programming skills using Clojure and clojurescript and who prefers doing something for the public good than earning a lot! They should be comfortable with numbers and have excellent interpersonal skills to work closely with end users as well as the rest of the Centre team.

Fixed-term: This will be a 18 month post with a 6 month probationary period.
