Enhancement: Add Character Variations for the Sake of Organization #3829

Issue Checklist

What is your suggestion, and why should it be implemented?

With more characters to eventually come to Funkin', it can cause clutter in menus such as the chart editor to look for a specific player or opponent. The current version of FNF uses multiple character files to distinguish between variations of one specific character. One example of this is Pico, who has his normal opponent version, his playable version, week 5 version, and week 2 version. As more weekends and styles of Pico to come, this can cause clutter for modders, which character variations solve. This would work similar to the variations for songs, and it should be possible to switch between variations in an updated version of the character editor.

I was going to make a similar post to this, and I agree with it fully. Though I was going to suggest that instead of multiple characters in 1 .json, you simply make it so that putting a sub-folder in the characters folder turns that part of chart editors character select into a folder, which you obviously could put even more subfolders into for truly perfect organization. Now that this exists, I can't make an issue for it lol, but I thought I'd leave my ideas here to see what you think of it and contribute to the conversation.

This is probably a better suggestion than mine tbh, since it would probably take a lot of rewriting to get this issue to work. Organizing the character would be easier to implement and still fix the clutter issue. I don't think anything like these suggestions will come soon, seeing that the devs haven't been looking through the GitHub issues as much recently, probably because they're focused on releasing 0.6.0, considering they go quieter before dropping an announcement or update.

I'll still leave the issue open for the future, so it's easy to refer back to this.
