[Suggestion] Feeding items for enchants #12

So just pick and choose your enchants seems a bit too easy once you get the infusing table, so I propose an alternative mechanic (maybe for another mod?... similar to this?), you feed items or books that have enchantments so you can put those enchants on other items.

E.g.

You get a pickaxe it has unbreaking 2, you feed it to the infuser. Later on you get another pickaxe it has fortune 1, you feed it to the infuser. You then want a new enchanted pickaxe and you put it on the infuser, now you can put both unbreaking 2 and fortune 1 to the item, and once put, they are spent.

If you put an enchanted book it will also feed those enchants to the table.

Here there are 2 possibilities,

  1. If you put lets say two unbreaking 2 enchants, then you can put unbreaking 2 on 2 items, but not one with unbreaking 3... if you want that, you need to first go to the anvil, combine those 2, and feed unbreaking 3 to the infuser.
  2. Feeding 2 unbreaking 2 books will let you put unbreaking 3 on 1 item, but only once. Maxing out the unbreaking.

This helps to recycle found items on structures in the world, instead of just tossing them out since the infuser already does everything for you.

Thanks!!

The idea is great, it already exists though. The Apotheosis mod has a block called Enchantment Library which does all that for enchanted books: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlzS641Kxoc

And yeah, the infuser is too easy. I'm planning on buffing the costs rather significantly in the next update, but beyond that there aren't so many options available for making it harder. Just two thoughts I had: The infuser could maybe randomly add unremovable curses when you go overboard with the amount of enchants on an item (just a chance you might catch a curse, and there would be a warning on the item tooltip so the curse doesn't come out of nowhere) and/or an unlocking mechanic so that you have to 'know/uncover/unlock' an enchantment first before it becomes usable, maybe by feeding the infuser enchanted items a bit similar to your suggestion above.

But after all people like easy stuff, and making the infusion mechanics more complicated will make it much less attractive to many people.

I think feeding in order to unlock sound fair enough, you should go with that!, too easy is also not fun as it kills the use of stuff.

I was finally able to add a feature that requires you to basically 'unlock' (meaning only unlock once and then 'know' about the enchantment forever) enchantments before you can use them in the infuser by feeding already enchanted items to the infuser (kinda like the transmutation tablet from Equivalent Exchange 2, just for enchantments). It's still heavily wip, but a test version is live on our discord. Would be great if you could join and give some feedback if you want to. :) https://discord.gg/8ZmhaPPbjE PS: You'll have to enable that feature in the server config first, as it's still wip as mentioned.

I'll definitely check that out myself, as I've thought of a similar concept that would fit better as it's own mod rather than into this one. I think it could also be handy for obtaining treasure enchantments as well, thus not practically requiring you to imprison an entire village worth of villagers to boot, as just finding one in a chest is just as viable to get everything. Nevermind the fact that the repair button somewhat negates the requirement of having mending to keep your tools in the first place. :P

Sidenote, that discord invite is expired.
