missing workspace name #5

I had named workspaces with another extension but it looks that using switcher has its own set of workspace names? I would welcome to see the workspace name in the preview popup list too. The preview also does not show the assigned background? Only the active window in the workspace is shown in the preview?

What "another extension"? WSM uses 'official' GNOME gsettings key workspace-names in org.gnome.desktop.wm.preferences scheme.

I would welcome to see the workspace name in the preview popup list too.

WSM can display ws names in the ws switcher popup as you can see on screenshots.

The preview also does not show the assigned background? Only the active window in the workspace is shown in the preview?

WSM popup cannot display workspace previews.

I don't understand your problem, try to elaborate, add screenshots. What system/distribution do you use? What other extensions you have enabled?

Hi sorry to be not specific enough with my issue. I run ubuntu 22.04 with gnome 43 on an amd 64 system (ryzen) I have a number of manually added extensions running

[image: image.png] I have used a pre 43 gnome version to define my ws names. this showed me on the top bar on the left the the list of ws-names. With the update to 43 this was lost and I get only the list of my workspace numbers [image: image.png]

I started to search for a extension that would get me my workspace names back and found your workspace-switcher-manager

Now with your extension activated when using the switch key I get this: (I initially got "Primary" as name of ws 1 but when I changed the name with your extension it showed properly "Privat". I also noted that initially my ws3 showed a name but this must have come from another source) [image: image.png]

As you can see I get a preview of the workspaces and my current workspace 1/Private is shown. As I understand from your note this is a clash of another extension with your extension.

disabling Gnome 4x UI Improvements shows changes the picture a bit, I get [image: image.png] So the preview icons show the assigned backgrounds but no name and no windows. It also works only initially, as soon as I click on a workspace icon the background is gone and replaced with a preview of the open windows (img once clicked the second icon in the list): [image: image.png]

I stepped through all other extensions and disabled them one by one but I wasn't able to see the behaviour as in your screenshot example on your website.

I hope this gives you a better idea of what I was trying to get, mostly:

Maybe In addition (but only as my private opinion) ruining your beautiful hovering button row in the large preview window and show named buttons for the dummies?

If you would like me to produce more images with other extension settings feel free to ask for more

Regards and in hope you are not mad at me

Seems like you sent the last message from your email client and all images have been replaced by [image: image.png] text. Try it again, directly on the GitHub page ;)

WSM extension has nothing to do with the content of your screenshots, it replaces the default popup indicator that appears when you use keyboard shortcut for switching workspaces (Super + Page Up/Down, Ctrl + Alt + Arrow Left/Right).

As the workspace indicator that supports names in the top panel, you can use Workspaces Bar extension.

My Overview Feature Pack extension provides workspace captions (index, index + ws name, index + focused app name) on hover and also backgrounds for the ws thumbnails in the Activities overview.

My Vertical Workspaces extension can also add labels to workspace thumbnails in the overview.

That's all I can offer.

Space Bar extension for the top panel looks nice.

Hey man Thanks a ton. Got my preferred workspace names back and it's an extension that knows about right clicks on elements!!! Now its just finding an extension that shows assigned backgrounds and/or workspace names in the preview list. Juerg
