Are there rules for icon design/usage via the MICA brand guides? #2

I'll email communications to find out...

bjornmeansbear commented 6 years ago

@colemcdonnell can you also remind me the link to the branding kit website?

devinhalladay commented 6 years ago

Idk if this is what you're talking about @bjornmeansbear but jumping in with a link to the identity guidelines: https://www.mica.edu/Documents/AboutMICA/standards_and_guidelines.pdf

bjornmeansbear commented 6 years ago

There is no information in the guidelines about icons. So this question/issue was to remind myself to ask communications if they have specs on this.

I was thinking that there could be some interesting way to build a "grid" based on the “organic pattern” to use as the sub-structure to generate icons from?

Maybe rather than using representational icons (which will be very hard and time-consuming, esp. for large categories and abstract ones), we can assemble a grid of 26 dots (?), each representing a letter in the alphabet (?) and use conenct them using this metaball structure based on the LOC code for each category. Not sure if that makes any sense

devinhalladay commented 6 years ago

So basically each category would have a unique permutation of this metaball structure based on its code (or potentially based on some other parametric factors?)

That would work very nicely w/in the range of the organic pattern for sure...
