Try to add the ability to play forward and backward to move the trim point. After doing that, the trim position should not update unless the user moves the mouse cursor?
This may need some more thought. The tool may need distinct modes to trim with the mouse (click, drag, and release) and to use the keyboard (keyboard input controls the active end point of the trim).
