It would be beneficial to incorporate a third run phase for GOCART to temporally consolidate diagnostic terms required to compute the aerosol mass budget. GOCART runs prior to GAAS and diagnostics such as the column mass density are therefore computed before the increments are applied to the vertical profile of aerosol mixing ratio. The third run phase would be used to computed diagnostics AFTER GAAS runs to assist with aerosol mass budget calculations. Consideration should also be given to handling outputting emissions if diagnostics are being written more frequently than the emissions are getting applied within the model.
