TH using data on non-Labs Geonode #47

Open stufraser1 opened 7 years ago

We would like to access and use, in both ThinkHazard and GeoSAFE, data that resides on a GeoNode external to the Labs GeoNode. Specifically (and for now limited to) http://disasterrisk.af.geonode.org

Can we access the data via OGC and have ThinkHazard perform its calculations / GeoSAFE do the overlay analysis or do we need to make a full copy of the data and host it on Labs GeoNode in order to do this?

@cgiovando advises

Requesting input from Camptocamp @fvanderbiest , Kartoza @gubuntu, GeoSolutions @afabiani, and @jj0hns0n

@gubuntu can you provide details on whether GeoSAFE can pull external GeoNode data sources?

@fvanderbiest what are the type of calculations that ThinkHazard has to perform?

gubuntu commented 7 years ago

At present GeoSAFE requires locally published GeoNode data sources. However, you can fetch remote sources through the MetaSearch tool in GeoSAFE.

Remote data sources in GeoNode were not yet available when GeoSAFE was initially developed. The ability to use a remote layer directly in an analysis without publishing it locally would have to be developed.

Thanks. @cgiovando - given the response above, it sounds like our only option is to download the layers of interest and store them on Labs geonode. Correct? @ErikKBethke - If this is confirmed, we need to work on copying over selected hazard layers + metadata, then exposure ASAP. In this case, we have no need for access to the ftp site.

Narrowing the scope only for ThinkHazard! @fjacon could you provide us with technical options and associated LoE to enable ThinkHazard! to use remote layer from Afghanistan GeoNode?
