Lake identified as glacier in Russia #47

RGI version RGI v7.0

Describe the issue RGI2000-v7.0-G-09-00911 glacier is a lake, this is very clear in satellite imagery GLIMS ID is: G097531E79788N

Expected outcome Delete polygon from GLIMS/RGI

What is the date of the image above? The Mapbox imagery for this area in the GLIMS Glacier Viewer (https://www.glims.org/maps/glims) shows something that could be snow or ice, but I don't know the date of that image either. Maybe it was ice 22 years ago?

Hi Bruce, it is possible by highly unlikely. I saw that image too with ice in it and it has all the tell tale signs of lake ice if you look more closely. If you need me to, I would be happy to dig more on this, perhaps seeing that a DEM is flat here would be persuasive? I am convinced this is a lake and should be removed from GLIMS.

It's too late for the RGI - but GLIMS could delete it yes, for future versions...
