Similar to #16 , what sound hardware did you use for the DOS recordings? Or did you use an emulator?
I don't think I changed much compared to the original project https://github.com/fabiensanglard/chocolate_duke3D
Though I did delete a lot of files related to other, but unused, sounds backends. I can totally believe that:
I've used DosBox-X because I don't own a DOS-machine anymore. From what I remember when I've played the shareware version back in the 90's is that DosBox sounds how I've experienced it in the past. The reverb sounds correct in Eduke32 / Rednukem, in Raze it's completely missing (already reported that bug). I've checked DosBox-X configurations and then configured Duke3D with Soundblaster, set to 16bit and 44khz with max. voices.
With version 2022.07.27 I've encountered inaccurate reverb effects in ChocolateDuke3D. The samples were made at the start of Episode 1 Level 4 in the sunken submarine. While reverb / reflections are present in this source port, they sound nothing like the original.
