Some random things I've noticed #84

I just recently got OCAT and I've noticed some oddities with the app. I took a look at the documentation and the issues posted here but I have bad memory so apologies if I repeat something/ state a known. I'm currently using a GTX 1080 with Driver V. 452.06.

  1. Certain apps freeze/ crash when OCAT is closed - Certain apps such as Brave Browser, Steam (when removed from blacklist), Rockstar Launcher, GeForce Experience, and MusicBrainz Picard (music tagging app) will freeze and then crash/ force close when you close OCAT. But some apps still function fine, such as Borderlands 3, Killing Floor 2, GTA V, and Excel. Closing OCAT will not crash those apps. It should be noted that some apps don't have the OCAT overlay visible/ running (brave, steam, etc) but it is still technically active for those programs. Tbh, I'm not really sure what the connection is or why this happens and I didn't test any other apps.

  2. Rockstar Launcher and GTA V - OCAT runs on the Rockstar Launcher. I thought that adding Launcher.exe would solve it but it doesn't. Instead, I believe you need to add SocialClubHelper.exe to prevent OCAT overlay from showing up. That would be good by itself but in a previous issue here: OCAT crashes HITMAN, it was suggested to add Launcher.exe to the blacklist. Oddly enough, adding SocialClubHelper.exe and Launcher.exe will actually prevent the overlay from displaying in GTA V. I'm not sure why adding both exes interferes with what I believe is GTAV.exe or PlayGTAV.exe.

  3. Red Dead Redemption 2 - OCAT does not work with RDR 2 at all. When Vulkan is enabled, the game will open up a blackscreen and then Rockstar Launcher will then display force closing and the game closes. If you start up the Rockstar Launcher first, then open up OCAT, then try and run RDR 2, the same thing happens and the game just closes. If I use DX12, the game won't load for me and it's just an infinite black screen that I can't force close. Not caused by OCAT, DX12 is just too stronk for me I guess.

  4. Random oddities. I have the overlay on the left side of the screen and I've noticed that I sometimes get this rare shading issue on the left side. This was (so far) only noted in paint.net and GTA V. In paint.net, the left side of my screen slowly turns gray as more frames are rendered total. You'll see that whenever I move the mouse, the left side slowly becomes a darker grey. I oddly have the ability to draw in it (the pixel sizes, funnily, are speed related) and again, as I move my mouse and render frames, the light "drawn" over areas become that dark gray. This can be seen in this gif here:

Edit: As shown in the image, the same area where the gray rectangle was shown on paint.net, there's a big of a darker shading in that are on GTA V. Again, this isn't immediate, and it only occurs after I complete a couple of missions later.

  1. Not really an issue, but just a question. Will there be support for older DX versions (10, 9) and opengl?
