add a "About" button at left bottom corner #32

Additional options that might be useful: 'Help' and 'About' buttons, which takes you to new screens with basic info on the app/how to use (depending on how hard it is to do things) and gives some info about where the data is from and/or link to desktop gplates app.

One of the buttons at the lower left corner should be assigned to pop up the "About" page. Let's mock up this "About" page first and then ask @mariaseton and @nickywright to provide some info to populate the page. I think the page should contain some text about the AuScope and maybe links to www.gplates.org and data/reconstruction models being used in the app.

The "About" page is merged but empty. What should we put in? @mariaseton @nickywright

@mariaseton I think we need some introductory text for the app. And maybe put some legal and copyright info in this "About" page. Also, maybe acknowledge AuScope for funding.

Ok. How about something like this:

The GPlates App is an education and outreach focussed application allowing users to reconstruct and visualise spatial data through geological time. It is a product of the plate reconstrucion software, GPlates (www.gplates.org) and the GPlates Portal (https://portal.gplates.org).

The GPlates App has been developed at the University of Sydney and is supported by the Australian governmnt funded AuScope National Collaborative Research Infrastructure System (NCRIS) program.

For more information on the GPlate App, please contact maria.seton@sydney.edu.au or Michael Chin michael.chin@sydney.edu.au

I haven't added legal or copyright info because I'm unsure what to put. I'll try and find out.

@yiyanw could you please

  1. change the "About" page icon to <ion-icon name="information-outline"></ion-icon>
  2. enable the links inside the "About" page. if no too much trouble, use an in-app browser to open the link
  3. format the text a bit, such as add margin between the text and the dialog frame.
  4. if possible, enable the email links as well. Since this will be an App, I guess it is unnecessary to protect the emails from spam bots.

After above items are done, I think we can close this issue.

This is good enough for me at this stage. I think we should close this Issue and focus on other higher priority items. We can create new Issues in the future if anything needs to be done to this About page.

And @yiyanw Please change the first link from www.gplates.org to https://www.gplates.org. thanks.
