Write content in plain language: The Plain Writing Act of 2010 prescribes
requirements for the writing style of a wide range of electronic and paper documents
prepared by agencies. Agencies must use plain language for any document that is
necessary for obtaining any Federal Government service or benefit, provides information
about a Federal Government service or benefit, or explains to the public how to comply
with requirements the Federal Government administers or enforces. In addition to
meeting the Act’s requirements, each agency should, to the extent practicable, write
content for websites and digital services in accordance with Federal Plain Language
