SBA.gov: License references in code.gov #327

Open RicardoAReyes opened 7 years ago

Submission by SBA.gov

Can anyone tell me why all license references formally in code.gov have been removed and replaced by

License We’re not sure what license this repo has. Try making a pull request that updates this repo’s code.json file.

Is it no longer correct for agencies to include license references in OSS metadata records?

We apologize for any confusion on the Code.gov Metadata Schema 2.0.0 description. To clarify further, the new Metadata Schema 2.0.0 definition can be found here:

https://code.gov/#/policy-guide/docs/compliance/inventory-code

The agencies can list the project license information in the following section on their code.json file:

permissions licenses name URL

Also, the code-gov-web repo license can be found here: https://github.com/GSA/code-gov-web/blob/master/LICENSE.md

With anyone still on schemas v1.0.0 or v1.0.1, we cannot display license info at this time because those schemas did not support license names—only license URL’s. We are working on a solution to bridge that gap, but upgrading to the v2.0.0 schema will allow licenses to be shown on the site.

Please let us know if further clarification is needed.
