How do you define innovation?
I am responsible to administer a research program for the agency that funds research in the area of water treatment. I am always looking for innovative ways to increase interest in the program, improve our management of the program and the dollars we obtain from Congress. I am also responsible for the Operation and Maintenance of a research facility in New Mexico, always looking for innovative ways to bring new clients to the facility, how do we better distribute information on the capabilities of the facility, and how to effectively operate it with a limited staff.
What would you like to learn regarding to innovation and building a better government?
What has been done by others, what has worked, and find a community where I can freely share my ideas and not be seen as a crazy dreamer that will never implement innovative ideas in my area of work.
What problem(s) are you trying to solve in your organization?
How to initiate more innovative approaches to solve our problems, how to convince leadership and obtain a champion within the organization that understands the importance of innovation and could champion new ideas within the organization. It is a very conservative culture and difficult to implement new ideas.
