yea, even in dev, https://github.com/GTNewHorizons/twilightforest/pull/62 does not work properly. DrParadox7 is aware though and also said they have some idea why. basically its about making it work with tgregworks or going for some different approach.
Sorry to bring this up again, would it be at all possible to fix a tool affected by this without just copying over the data from a backup?
no you cant fix it by copying anything. that needs a code fix
I mean even when replacing the Twilight Forest material (e.g. raven's feather) with a normal one (slime leaves) the Twilight Forest material isn't properly removed meaning the item's NBT data would need to be copied over from a backup.

I would expect the materials to properly display on a tool and function according to "Notes on the Twilight Materials"
The Reality
When a twilight forest material is used in a TConstruct tool the Materials menu only displays "Unknown" and the material traits don't seem to activate.
Your Proposal
Have the TConstrunct materials menu display Twilight Forest materials a preferably have functional material traits,
