Should coil recycling return mica #6820

Closed Prometheus0000 closed 3 years ago

CuNi would not to prevent an exploit, but what about the others?

I think having mica instead of quartz sand and maybe less metal returned for the macerator recipes would be good.

Why not have us use other materials than Mica in coils? I was about to bring it up but if the point for the foil is to function as an abrasive or insulator we could use other currently useless materials. Rubracium for example. I find it strange we are using the same LV material for all coils

This is a fair point that could get some traction but should probably be in a separate thread.

I compiled a list of other seemingly useless materials. Though there could be a use I don't know of. And I don't know what would be an insulator in real life. There's certainly some options though. Though that assumes we really want to change it from mica. Mirabilite(T2), Alduorite(T3), Rubracium(T3), Ceruclase(T4), Vulcanite(T4), Chrysotile(T7), Tartarite(T8). Also Inolashite made from Alduorite and Ceruclase.

Or the weight of mica could be buffed slightly?

Prometheus0000 commented 3 years ago

I'd rather it be added to another planet.

GTNH-Afx237v7 commented 3 years ago

Makes sense and fits progression even more, what about no-rocket runs? I don’t know whether all of these ores have a crop variant...

S4mpsa commented 3 years ago

Mica Insulator already uses Asbestos which has to be mined, so as long as the materials are available in OW/Nether/End/TF all is well for no-rocket runs.

Prometheus0000 commented 3 years ago

...And we're thinking about adding a new required material for coils from another planet though? I'm sure a recipe could be added that uses SP like the others though.

There are very few ore crops compared to the whole. There is a mica one though.

Fuck no rocket runs they shouldn't be a thing

I wouldn't say fuck them but they shouldn't be a factor in deciding future balancing issues. It's an extreme play style that fewer than 10 people have ever even attempted (If that).

I suppose we could add chains for forming these into proper insulators, nothing insane just something akin to the current mica foil recipes. Finally giving these ores a real use would be nice as well.

Prometheus0000 commented 3 years ago

I think only one or two would be appropriate, having a new material constantly would be annoying.

redmage17 commented 3 years ago

Why not just use foil?

LewisSaber commented 3 years ago

What about solidifying mica insulation sheets in moten metal and for higher tier also freeze them

Prometheus0000 commented 3 years ago

So does anyone have opinions about the actual issue?

GTNH-Afx237v7 commented 3 years ago

I don’t think it should return mica, just some metal. Further, I favor the idea of different materials for other coil tiers as mentioned above. Shouldn’t be too many different planet ores, as that gets boring quickly.

Spluff5 commented 3 years ago

I think Chrysotile is a prime candidate to act as a component of a higher tier insulator since irl it's a form of asbestos anyway.

You can disassemble them now, so this is obsolete.
