As a counterpoint on graalvm on Mac, refreshing server list doesn’t crash, so maybe its network code specific?

From what i've figured, the message specifically has to be this otherwise it doesn't happen. Try joining before a restart and see if it happens to you.
I’ve done that a bunch (you can get a please wait the server is still starting).
Maybe update JVM? Mine is 272 or something.

Doubt its that, i'm up-to-date.
It's a vanilla crash caused by bad packets received to the client. Unless someone is willing to patch netty to avoid that, which isn't trivial, nothing can be done.

This code doesn't even exist in 1.7.10 & Netty 4.0.10
This is a result of your launcher using the custom Mojang Nett builds with a versions such as netty-1.6 or netty-1.7.7 which is downloaded when using newer versions of MC.
This can be fixed, painfully.

Hopefully fixed by this - https://github.com/draknyte1/Netty-Patcher/releases/tag/Release_1

Scenario 1:
Eta is restarting and I get back to the server selection screen. Clicking refresh while a server is shown as offline freezes the game and crashes after a few moments.
Scenario 2:
I start up the game and go to the server selection screen. One server is offline and I click refresh to see if its back on and the game freezes then crashes after a few moments.
Conclusion: Refreshing the server list if one of the servers is shown as offline will crash the game.
I have verified that I am not the only one with this issue.
