sometimes it was seeming like the update process didn't work - would be nice to have log file compare version before and after update

noticing the log file either freezes or takes a VERY long time for things to process after GitHub Sig Verified. Related to backup process?

Noticed the backups are becoming hundreds of MB, so that needs to be fixed.
