Hello.

Here is an updated version of the french translation file (doc). It contains more accurate words and all strings have been translated.

There might be errors, so there could be another small update later.

bye :)

I can't change the language anymore in the latest 90335 build;

I can see the first item in the menu (English en-US) but the drop-down menu doesn't appear when I click.

Yep, that was because of an issue with the breadcrumb bar. It has been fixed in 90339 by disabling a part of the breadcrumb bar, but I have fixed the issue and everything will be back to normal in my next commit. :

I have checked the Locale.fr-FR.xaml file of the latest build 90417 (even if I couldn't create the build).

Thank you for adding the new words. Though, I noticed that you haven't replaced the old ones (those who were made by Pascal Huau).

the first translation (his) wasn't that good. I am affraid that you will have to replace/recheck everything.

Example : He used "Explorer" for "Home" but in my translation (and in the official Windows Ribbon), it's called "Accueil".

I would prefer to see the official words (from the official ribbon), sorry Pascal Huau.

Thank you in advance, JaykeBird

Here is my new French Translation based on the updated .doc file.

Note that I haven't only translated the red (new) sentenses, I also updated some other old french translations.

Okey-dokey. I will review it and use it to update the existing French translation.

Hello.

After chatting with JaykeBird (by e-mail), it seems that we are three to have translated the document.

And to be frank, I don't think it's up to JaykeBird (unless he knows french as we do) to choose which translation file is the best, which word should be added and which one shouldn't. To me it's a weird situation that needs to be "fixed".

And since we are three to have sent translation files, I suggest that we work all together, in order to decide how to make the perfect translation. I would really like to have your opinions, ideas, comments, critics on the words that we should use.

I tend to think that we should respect the official Windows 8's Explorer ribbon as much as possible. That's why the translation I made matches at 99% the official Ribbon (based on Windows 8 CP french).

I know there might be differencies between variants of French translations. Example : in some softwares, there are different variants of the French translation. Belgium might have a different words (even if it's also French), ans it's the same for Quebec, Switzerland..

I am french from France so my translation is based on that version.. Thanks for reading.

I have decided to not accept the third person's translation, simply because you and Pascal Huau have already submitted translations well before the third person did, so the whole seniority thing comes into play.

That being said, I now have two translations, and with the beta release date fast approaching, a decision must be made. Otherwise, I will compare the two translation files and use the translation that I think will best fit the command or description using my knowledge of Romance languages

You don't plan to mix both translations, do you ? :-o

I have changed my mind since that last comment. I will be using your translation instead, so I don't have to deal with comparing the two and going from there or anything.

Sorry to Pascal, but a quick decision needs to be made. If there are items in the translation that do bother Pascal, he is more than free to bring them up to me.

I have decided that from now on, I will not accept multiple translations for the same language. Unless otherwise noted, I will take the first offered translation of a given language and others are free to comment on it and request changes.

JaykeBird

P.S. About the beta release (I will be making a discussion post about this as well), I have decided we shouldn't delay the beta anymore because of translations. The beta will be released within the next 48 hours, and afterwards, I will work with the translators, including you, xanax , to update all translations for all commands, and a Translation Update to the beta will be posted afterwards.

Do you still mix several translations ? After testing the build 92122, I noticed words that were not in the file I updated last time.

Translations will be updated in the next build

JaykeBird commented 12 years ago

Translations have been updated since then.

Note that translations will changed once again, taking suggestions from xanax and incorporating GitHub itself.

More details will be announced soon.
