Ok. Here goes the update!
I did two things-
  1) Use the wiimote as mouse. Left and right click works. Needs some practice
navigating around the screen. Could not test scroll.
  2) IR cam works, I used the remote control from Hp Laptop. Placing the IR
transmitter in front of the camera in wii will show a dot on the IR cam screen. 
This
was done using the wmgui on Ubuntu. 

Todo: Find out how to actually access the IR cam data so that we can use it 
build our
own application. Right now I can see the result on wmgui and have no means to 
put the
signal to use. 

Also, there are ways in Ubuntu to use the Wii for controlling media player and 
other
stuff.

You can look at the source code of the app. Take my/Rahul's help if you need.
