Steam flickering (apparently compton conflict) #407

After a fresh install on an Asus C302C Steam flickers severely - even just running the big picture UI on the lowest resolution available or via home streaming. After a couple fruitless attempts, I came across an old post about kodi + compton conflicts noted in https://github.com/GalliumOS/galliumos-distro/issues/260

Shutting down compton via pkill compton allows Steam to run smoothly but this could use a better default setup.

It appears there have been some prior discussions of the relative merits of compton vs xfwm4 but this issue can possibly be resolved with a change to the default gallium compton configuration which includes several application specific exclusions.

Yes. Also in my xsession.error log, Compton conflicts and errors out a lot.

My Steam flickers on Full Screen mode, even not in 'legit' full-screen mode.. (I don't have to lose the title bar) just having the window take the entire size of my screen and it starts to flicker, if I resize the window just a little smaller than full screen it seems to rectify the issue.
