GalliumOS 2 stable, acer c720 haswell Peppy chrx, wifi network : timeout when typing wifi password prevents connection #496

This problem is reproductible and the method completely solve the problem.

I installed GalliumOs stable via chrx. Acer C720 Peppy Haswell.

I could not connect and tried different fixes i found on forums, none worked. My wifi password is long and confusing so i type it slowly. Before i finish typing it , the little downward pointing triangle indicating that wifi information is exchanged in the bottom right corner of the desktop disappears. Instead are 2 arrows, one up one down indicating network activity in general.

I then press the button to validate the wifi password and authenticate and no connection happens.

To troubleshoot this i write down the wifi password in a text file and copy paste it in the wifi password dialog to save time. It then works all the time and connects.

It is not a typing issue : if i wait for the 2 arrows icon to replace the triangle icon and validate the copied/pasted password it always fails.

This issue is fixed in the Gallium 3 installed via chrx -r dev , because the triangle icon stays until password validation, but could present itself for c720 users of your stable version.

@Gallus720 That's an interesting one, thank you for the report. I suspect the fix in GalliumOS 3 came from an upstream change in NetworkManager.

GalliumOS 3.0-final will be out soon, but many people will still be on 2.1 for a while, so this will be helpful info even after 3.0 is released.

Another possible workaround is to open the terminal and use one of the two command line tools to join the network.

nmtui (networkmanager text user interface) or nmcli (my favorite)

nmcli --ask device wifi connect
