Acer R11 CBS 132T (Cyan) Trackpad crashes after an hour and a half of use #500

While using a fully updated build of 3.0b on my Cyan, the trackpad will crash after about an hour and a half of use. This issue appears to be sporadic- it doesn't happen every time I use my Cyan. I don't see a pattern to what I'm doing at the time and when the crash happens. One time it was after I had opened a tab in Firefox and another time it was while I was scrolling through OWA in Firefox. A reboot restores the trackpad's functionality.

Identical issue with Acer Chromebook 14 Edgar CB3-431-C7EX. OS version info:

scott@Chromebook:~$ cat /etc/os-release

plugging in a USB mouse works while the trackpad remains unresponsive (my trackpad is down as I type)

running dmesg | grep -i elan yields

Reddit posts suggest that deactivating the "tap touchpad to click" option in the Elan Touchpad settings have rectified similar issues for other users, but my option is selected and greyed out disallowing modification. Toggling "Enable this device" yields no results
