Invisible complex tails (and other related GH tail bugs) #20

Investigate invisible tails bug and potential fix.
This seems to be OS-specific as it works fine under MS Windows.

There's a known workaround (hence the low priority) and i've included
modified tails in GNU/Linux releases.

As detailed and further linked by BlackJack here:
http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=25040&p=305168#p305139

a list of songs with problematic tails with GH3 theme (like described
[http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=276755#p276755 here]), in
the hope
we could find something common in those songs to pinpoint the bug :

    * Aerosmith - Talk talkin' (co-op)
    * AC/DC - T.N.T. (Live)
    * Burning Brides - Heart Full Of Black

Though there is also a "tail glitch" on this one, it looks quite different (cf.
the
end of a previous
[http://www.fretsonfire.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=278318#p278318
post]) :

    * Ozzy Osbourne - Bark At the Moon

-----Chris: these tail bugs all seem to be related, and perhaps not restricted
to
Linux/Mac builds (although I've never encountered them).

Update : the bug also appears on the following songs :

* The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again (from RB)
* Pixies - There Goes My Gun (from the DLC of RB)
* Mötley Crüe - Face Down In The Dirt (from the DLC of RB)

Oh, and about Talk Talkin' (co-op) : it's obviously Joe Perry, not Aerosmith.
My bad. :p

Is this really song specific? I'm doubting it, unless we are confusing our
issues
here. I always have the tail issue on Linux, unless of course, the song doesn't
have
sustained notes.

As far as I can tell, any image that is 1 pixel in height does not repeat
properly on
GNU/Linux systems, hence the missing tails in GH based themes. I realised this
when
Kid decided to resize several images in his RB2 theme down to one pixel for some
strange reason.

The result of course was that I had no center lines, side bars, or tails. As it
stands right now I have the original images that were larger in height in my
mods
folder, so the theme will display properly.

In any case, the move by Kid helped me realise that it was the same thing on GH
themes, so I decided to try out the Modern Grunge theme, and indeed, I had no
tails.
All I had to do was resize the canvas for each tail in the tails folder in gimp
from
one pixel to five, then copy/paste the layer until it extends from top to
bottom. No
more tail issues.

The fix is simple -- have modders stop making one pixel height images. Of
course,
that would be difficult to achieve, considering my statements on this matter
were
taken for granted in the RB2 thread. (Again, hence why I am using the mods
folder)

Perhaps something could be done in the code to get 1 pixel images to repeat
properly?

In any case, I probably typed all of this for nothing, as this probably isn't
the
(droids?) issue I am looking for.

The "problematic tails with GH3 theme" bug (from comment #4 and #7) is indeed
song
specific. The "invisible complex tails", however, is not, but according to Chris
"these tail bugs all seem to be related, and perhaps not restricted to
Linux/Mac builds" (although he never encountered them!).
