I believe I can shed some light on how this works-
Only for two players. They must be on the same instrument, but don't have to be
same
difficulty.
Notes Player 1 has to play are marked by A#8 and Player 2 plays notes during A8.
As far as I can tell, A8 and A#8 always overlap in places where there are drum
fills,
so those shouldn't be a problem (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
The winner/leader cannot be based on score, since the two players can be on
different
difficulties. My best guess is it needs to be based on percentage of notes hit
and
multipliers.
Overdrive/StarPower multipliers work as in single player (double the player's
current
multiplier)
If one player has Overdrive/StarPower deployed while he doesn't have notes, the
drain
on his meter is paused.
I think that about covers it.

Good YouTube video showing a TOW game:

(Available in high quality)
Also need to double check; I may have swapped A8 and A#8. Those are the right
notes,
but which for P1 and P2? lol

Added a Needs To Be Done section to RB2 theme, and done graphics for Tug of War
mode.

This mode is called pro face-off in Guitar Hero themes (or at least GH3) and
has a
graphical layout that is very similar to the new GH co-op mode that has been
implemented recently. Songs didn't have the sections that RB did (both players
play
all the song) but that shouldn't be a problem because GH songs won't have those
markers :P
As for who wins, I think it's just based on the rock meter. You hit notes
correctly,
the rock meter goes in your direction. If your opponent hits notes then the rock
meter goes in the other direction. Whomsoever has the rock meter on their side
when
the song ends wins. Don't know how this works on different difficulties though,
as
you would think that the player on the harder difficulty would have more notes
and
therefore almost always win...

@Co2Noss: What? Wrong issue I think.
@death.au: No, that would be more like Rock Band's Score Duel mode. ;)
