Some Context/Background info The way CO and NC calculate utility deductions is different.

These are the utility deduction updates that need to be in the SNAP code for the NC screener: In NC, the standard utility deductions vary by household size, and households can only claim the highest applicable deduction.

Per the SNAP screener info for NC: Households can only receive one utility allowance. If a household qualifies for multiple allowances, choose the highest allowance.

Heating and Cooling: If a household pays utility bills for heating and cooling, or receives over $20 in heating assistance from LIHEAP, this allowance can be claimed.

Basic Utility Allowance: If a household pays for two or more utility bills (including electricity, gas, water, sewage, trash, or telephone), this allowance can be claimed.

Single Utilities: If a household pays for the utility, this allowance can be claimed.

Heating and Cooling Utility Allowance (HCSUA): 1 member $585 2 members $643 3 members $707 4 members $770 5 or more members $839

Basic/ Limited Utility Allowance (BUA/LUA): 1 - $371 2 - $408 3 - $448 4 - $488 5 - $532

There is a $41 standard deduction for Phone expense regardless of household size.

These deduction amounts may be updated at the end of the federal fiscal year, September 30, 2024.
