The other guy has a better tagline than ours imho. Why?: Because it:

  1. conveys what the propsective user might need
  2. ours uses words like snippets and math which user might not know about.

Use your english here @iWrote

I have some ideas: (feel free to trash)

  1. "text accelerator"
  2. "intelligent text expander"
  3. "custom forms"
  4. "completely free"

There's really so much I can do. I mean, both of ours softwares are similar so the tagline's bound to be similar, but I don't want it to sound like a direct rip-off from one another. Imagine what affect similar-sounding taglines might have on a user who's seeing us and text blaze on his SERP.

Intelligent text expansion for frequently used phrases, custom forms, and much more. The free Swiss Knife for text acceleration!

Intelligent text expansion for frequently used phrases, inbrowser math, and much more. The free Swiss Knife for text acceleration!

128 char has keywords: phrase, expand, custom form, free, text acceleration, and swiss knife hints at a rich feature set.

or maybe just

Intelligent text expansion for frequently used phrases. Also supports custom forms, inbrowser math, data sync. etc.

I let the expansion part take up all the space because that's what most people care about. And ATE, Blaze, Expander, blah all do the same. Their descriptions for reference - ATE - Create custom keyboard shortcuts to expand and replace text as you type! Blaze - (Scroll up, pasting is bleh) Text Fu- Text expansion and substitution engine for textareas.

Not satisfied, though. Should we cut down to just

" Intelligent text expansion for frequently used phrases."

Or use something the first one? Ideas for improvement?

I like the first one. Though I was thinking more along the lines of:

Accelerate your workflow with this free Swiss Knife for intelligent text expansions for frequently used phrases, custom forms, and much more.

Basically, the thing is that even though it's called a "description" property, it technically should be a "CTA". The basic format should be: "{Hey user, do } increase your productivity { with our } bla blah bla { features } " and NOT "{We have } bla { features and you could do } increase your productivity"

Although maybe I am just being nitpicky. What do you think?

  1. It has to be - the Swiss Knife. <-- Undebatable.

  2. Confusion - ProKeys is the Swiss Knife for - [text acceleration] or [intelligent text expansions] ?

2.5 CTA order makes sense. But ATE, TextFu just give a one-liner description with no fancy tagline. Text Blaze has a long desc. with 130 char.

  1. ATE and TextFu have the main thing - text expansion - early in the sentence.

  2. ATE's description is so simple. Almost lazy. But it has max users. I'm inclined towards minimalism like ATE.

4.5 Should we cut down to something like -

Intelligent text expansion for frequently used phrases.

  1. How about this? This addresses 1,2,2.5,3, (not 4)

Save keystrokes with intelligent text expansions, custom forms, and much more! ProKeys is the Swiss Knife for text acceleration!

it starts with "save keystrokes" - exactly what people want when they search "text expand" (not as cool as Turbocharge though :/) it has double exclamations to compensate for the turbo_nocharge it follows save keystrokes with intelligent text expansions, relevant keywords show up early it has a fancy tagline

  1. Maybe we don't need a fancy tagline. We need Minimalism. = ATEism. Last proposition -

Save keystrokes with intelligent text expansions, custom forms, and much more! addresses 4, but might be kinda bland.

[I leave the listing of cons and brickbats to you.]

  1. Agreed.
  2. Intelligent Text Acceleration ;)
  3. Accelerating workflow is more important imho.
  4. It has max users NOT because anything in it is good but because it was the first to be released on the chrome store. When ProKeys v1 debuted 3 years ago, ATE already had 5k users. More users => more installs; more users does not always imply better product; 5 and 6. I think the last one is perfect. rewriting:

Save time and effort with intelligent text expansions, custom forms, and much more - with this Swiss Knife for text acceleration! (129 chars)

Change made because time is as important as effort (=keystrokes) AND people don't know what ProKeys is. Even recurring users misspell it as porkeys -_-

OK?

iWrote commented 7 years ago

The hyphen is ungrammatical. Can't pass it off as stylization. Typos, klutz, etc. leave a bad impression. Idk how to punctuate that part either, though . . .

GaurangTandon commented 7 years ago

So, what is to be done?

iWrote commented 7 years ago

idk, I used prokeys to get round it. will reply later

iWrote commented 7 years ago

Save time and effort with intelligent text expansions, custom forms, and much more—wield the Swiss Knife for text acceleration!

em dash + diction edits

is this ok?

GaurangTandon commented 7 years ago

Yep, perfect. Changing instantly

GaurangTandon commented 7 years ago
