I would like to have a portfolio with categories i have no idea if there is a manual for this? really missing it in the theme.

Hi,

Unfortunately this Theme doesn't have Portfolio included. You can try to use GK News Show Pro widget to achieve this effect, and use jQuery with CSS to create a nice hover effect. http://demo.gavick.com/wordpress/meetgavernwp/?page_id=765
