I will start listing possibilities:

Guidelines for writing definitions in ontologies. Seppälä, Ruttenberg and Smith

Please add your own! I do not mean to dictate the authority, but I will argue strenuously that we should improve the experience of searching and browsing MIxS by using a consistent description style.
