ETS2017 Problem 6 #13

The electric field of a plane electromagnetic wave of wavenumber $k$ and angular frequency omega is given by E = E_0(e_x + e_y)sin(kz - omega(t)). Which of the following gives the direction of the associated magnetic field, B? A: e_z B: e_x + e_y C: -e_x - e_y D: e_x - e_z E: e_y - e_z

GeorgesOatesLarsen commented 3 years ago

This is a real wacky one. It is somewhere between static and relational. The traditional relational mutator will not succeed at generating sensible vectors.

This might be generalizable into a computational problem (compute field vectors), but that seems pointless.

GeorgesOatesLarsen commented 3 years ago

The full list of fields is E (electric field), D (electric displacement), B (magnetic flux density), H (magnetic field strength), J (electric current density), P (polarization density)

GeorgesOatesLarsen commented 3 years ago

While this problem specifically cannot be made relational, it seems wise to create a set of relational problems governing the relationships between the field vectors themselves. Will make an issue.
