Your Python solution to this problem is pretty concise.

Are there other platforms which might make it easier to solve this sort of problem? They might, for example, already have libraries specifically for solving one or more components of the problem.

There definitely are libraries that provide some of components such as HERE's platform and it would've saved time, but I thought the problem was simple enough to solve myself and took it as a learning opportunity.

Probably wouldn't have saved time: you'd need to write code to interact with the API. Happy with you present approach.
