A little out there. lots of work done before hand. But could this be made to execute lua scripts?

I do not like the idea because then we need a secured lua "sandbox" to avoid the player hack the server. If you need a way to execute lua code anh hack your server, have a look to my qa_block: https://github.com/bell07/minetest-qa_block The mod can execute placed lua-files or entered lua-code, and have a nice globals browser

I was considering working on a BASIC "language" that turns simple commands into simple lau. But nothing that could be used maliciously.

The reason I chose lua is for compatibility with other mods that already use lua as a programming interface, but I also think I am a little nostalgic towards computercraft.

I hear you, I want to do BASIC because i am nostalgic for Tandy Color Computers and Commodorw64/128.
