Status of this project? conversion to TMC 2209 LA?

Hello Gherkin,

I'd like to know if you actually went ahead and used it in your projects ? Were you happy with it? It looks pretty neat and exactly the kind of little pcb I'd like.

Would you consider doing an upgrade to the TMC2209 LA - it brings an interesting stallguard feature that I have a use case for https://www.analog.com/media/en/technical-documentation/data-sheets/TMC2209_datasheet_rev1.09.pdf

Having checked the specs between 2208 & 2209 - It seems the circuit is mostly unchanged but there are some tiny changes that perhaps are really easy for you to implement? Helas, I have zero experience on pcb design and it would probably take me ages even if I used your project as a starting point.

Edit for clarity For interested readers on Christian's comment (following this post). It relates to a small batch I had built by jlcpcb using Gherkin's design and kicad project files that I edited for the 2209 chip. I've sent a couple of items to Christian as he is the developper of the excellent and useful python library and him being much more knowledgeable than I am. He was kind enough to test and report on his findings. Thanks Christian.

Sadly, Gherkin seems MIA...

I might post a fork for a revamped working version if/when I have time and if I'm comfortable enough with Kicad.

i tested the board. These are my findings:

• There is no information in the ReadMe about the resistor configurations
• The TMC-Driver can be powered with up to 24V or more. With the 0 Ohm resistor R8, which connects Vs with the 5V-rail on the board, you can only power the board with 5V on Vs. Otherwise the TMC blows up. As the TMC-drivers have an internal 5V regulator you can just remove the resistor R8 in order to get the board working with voltages higher than 5V on Vs.
• The ENN Input of the driver can be used to en-/disable the motor current output. The 0 Ohm resistor R1 shorts this Pin to GND, so the motor current output is always enabled. Either remove the resistor R1 or replace it with a high value Pull-Down-Resistor.
• The VCC_IO pin should be supplied with the same logic voltage level of the controller (Raspberry Pi 3,3V; Arduino 5V). Currently the VCC_IO pin is shorted by the 0 Ohm resistor R4 to the 5Vout Pin of the TMC-driver and with the 0 Ohm resistor R6 to the 3.3V net.
• The board does not have a real 3.3V level, so i would suggest to change/rename the connections to have a VCC_IO pin on the pin header and an optional 0 Ohm resistor to connect VCC_IO to the 5Vout of the driver
• The big Capacitor C7 should be rated for more than 24V. The current resistor "ST(Semtech) CK1C101M-CRE54" in the BOM is rated for only 16V.
• The STEP LED only flashes very dimly (only pulsed for a short time), but i am not sure whether that can be improved.
• The pin header pins should be labeled correctly and not the test points directly beneath it which are slightly off.
• The Vs-Connector has no labels for the polarity on the board
• The Vs-Connector has no label for the voltage limit
