I would consider investigating using OStatus to have StatusNet like (identi.ca) flow of wishes and offerings http://ostatus.org/2010/10/04/how-ostatus-enable-your-application http://www.slideshare.net/evanprodromou/ostatusenabling-your-php-application
Later it could also have option to federate with extended diaspora pods & friendica instances...
