Describe the bug On Firefox and Firefox-derivative browsers, https://homestuck.giovanh.com/homestuck/246 begins to load but suddenly vanishes, giving the error of "Hmm. That address doesn’t look right. Please check that the URL is correct and try again." Discovered first on Waterfox, tested again on base Firefox.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Go to https://homestuck.giovanh.com/homestuck/246 using Firefox or a Firefox-derivative broswer
  2. Wait for the animation to attempt to begin playing
  3. See error

Expected behavior The flash should play in full, with no interruptions.

Screenshots screen-recorder-sun-aug-06-2023-20-23-11.webm - Video recording of error

Desktop (please complete the following information):

Additional context Chromium-based browsers seem to be fine, as the animation ran on Edge.

This is still occurring. One interesting thing of note is that when the flash is manually loaded into ruffle's testing space no audio plays, maybe that's related somehow?

I took the swf url - https://file.garden/YOVpTKX47HhECOuA/AssetPack/hs2/10246/10246_hq.swf - and placed it into an MSPFA to get a better sense of what might be happening - https://mspfa.com/?s=49507&p=11 - and it appears that the issue is CORS related.

I could not directly copy-paste the error text since ruffle would automatically refresh the page for some reason, but I did manage to get a recording of the issue and the full error message (you'll have to pause and slow it down to see what it says though.)

The issue does not occur with the original version of the flash animation as set in replay new reader mode, only in the retconned archival version.
