It would be nice if some of the jessyink js code could be used for layered svg
files too.

http://code.google.com/p/jessyink/
"JessyInk is a JavaScript that can be incorporated into an Inkscape SVG image
containing several layers. Each layer will be converted into one slide of a
presentation. Current features include: slide transitions, effects, an index
sheet, a master slide and auto-texts like slide title, slide number and number
of slides."

Ooh, very interesting, I like it. Not sure how we'd use this, though, did you
have a particular integration method in mind?

I met Hannes at the europython in birmingham and he is also interested in
adding his jessyink to svg-edit too.

I think we should care on improvements of layers and ids that one can make
slides by an approach similiar to jessyink

One of the question I got by looking at it is if we can slide by an anchor
through svg-edits layers by now. This would make it possible to get the next
page by just incrementing #1.
We need a master layer too. the master layer is visible on all other layers.
This would not be only a nice improvement for the slide mode.

FYI, I think there could be some synergy between Issue 748 and this one.
