i'm just playing through the game on quest 2 and the crashes when it tries to load sp_a2_bts4, is there any way to fix this?

FudgiecatDX commented 8 months ago

i think something's just wrong with my game because it crashes at some point in sp_a2_bts5, too

I am getting the same issue using Valve Index. Additional details:

Advanced video settings:

My original settings are: * Anti-Aliasing Mode: None * Filtering Mode: Anisotropic 16X * Wait For Vertical Sync: Disabled * Multicore Rendering: Disabled * Shader Detail: Very High * Effect Detail: High * Model / Texture Detail: High * Paged Pool Memory Available: High I tried: 1. Original settings 2. Original settings but with Paged Pool Memory Available set to Medium 3. Original settings but with Paged Pool Memory Available set to Low 4. Original settings but with Shader Detail, Effect Detail, and Model / Texture Detail all set to Medium All four of these tests resulted in the crash occurring, and always with precisely the same timing (the animated throbber in the top-right would always get to around the 1-o-clock position before freezing, at which point the game would crash). Sometimes pressing Apply after modifying the settings would cause the game to crash, however upon relaunching it the settings would be applied properly, so when this occurred I just relaunched and proceeded with the testing. I also tried setting Multicore Rendering to Enabled, however when I applied this change, the display inside the headset would freeze, while on my monitor the game would continue back to the basic Video Settings menu as normal. If I were to then close and reopen the game, Multicore Rendering would be disabled again. This made testing it a bit impractical, however I did try enabling it and just watching my monitor to try and load the save while in VR with Multicore Rendering enabled, and the crash still occurred exactly the same as with other Advanced Video Settings changes.

I used the developer console command con_logfile crash_on_enter_level.log right after launching the game before entering the level to get a log file. Here is that log file after the crash occurs: crash_on_enter_level.log. Additionally, here is the portal2_d3d9.log from the same session, in case that might have any helpful information: portal2_d3d9.log.

In contrast, this is a log file of loading up the same save file after uninstalling the VR mod: enter_level_without_vr.log. I used the echo console command to put a message at line 53 to indicate the point at which I was in the level.

The first difference I notice is on Line 20 of crash_on_enter_level.log, which reads: PrecacheScriptSound 'hp®bÿ¼Ü±bYÃÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌÌjÿÿ`ݱbÂ' failed, no such sound script entry. This line is entirely absent in enter_level_without_vr.log. I don't have any way of knowing for sure, but I wonder if it might be relevant?

i'm glad i'm not alone on this! i really hope a fix comes for this because i was looking forward to the turret production part in vr

foxotic commented 8 months ago

Can confirm. Same issues. Rest of the game works fine.

RadioactiveToxinz commented 8 months ago

Same exact problem here. I have lost all hope in being able to do this part. I've tried everything you have and nothing has worked. Rest of the game and other loading transitions in the game seem to work perfectly fine. The crash on this specific level doesn't even feel like a crash, it just feels like an invisible clown is crawling thru my window, silently clicking alt+f4 at the same specific millisecond.

budwheizzah commented 8 months ago

Same problem here. Sadly I was looking forward to the turret swap scene but it is impossible to load. I even tried scattering a bunch of saves made on desktop around that area to see if i could bypass the crash. No luck.

Hey. Probably same here. Idk the the room, but my game crashes after entering it. May uninstalling the mod, doing the room in flatscreen and then install the mod again help?

Seems to be the same room according to youtube

I was able to progress after doing this, yes. I've only had time to go as far as dropping into Old Aperture since then, but as soon as I left the level that was crashing, I reinstalled the VR mod and haven't had any more issues since.

budwheizzah commented 8 months ago

I may try to use the console and simply run this: changelevel sp_a2_bts5 just prior to the crash point if it crashes again i'll just try the next map and so on.

Hope this gets fixed soon. Seems to be a silly sound cache issue since Valve updated the game.

PS: According to floral-qua-floral, even sp_a2_bts5 crashes. subsequent maps we can try are sp_a2_bts6 and sp_a2_core.

Can confirm it allowed me to continue my last auto-save from Escape and then play through the whole Turret Factory.

It also fixed my missing laser pointer for the portal gun, which I hadn't realized was a thing.
