Bug: Portal cannot be placed on the ceiling for the vertical light bridge in the Surprise Chapter, hard locking the game. #66

I'll have more info in a video I recorded soon, but wanted to get this bug out there as soon as possible. I started a brand new game and played all the way up to The Surprise with little to no issues, but in the first Chamber of the Surprise Chapter, with the vertical light bridge that you're supposed to move around with portals to avoid being hit by the caged turret, the gun refuses to place a portal on the ceiling where the light bridge hits, effectively making the puzzle unbeatable.

I'm having the same issue. It is possible to place the portal, but you have to be positioned exactly for it to work, close to directly beneath the surface you're trying to place the portal on. This does mean that you still can't place the portal from the platform on the other side of the room where the button is though.

I did notice the flatscreen crosshair showing briefly when aiming towards the panel whilst standing at the base of the light bridge. Not sure if this is related but thought it might be worth mentioning.

it is possible to finish the room with another way but it a little tricky and not easy (have to retry at least 10 times without knowing if it was possible but i confirm it does work)

  1. place the first portal on the ceiling on the light bridge (not from the other side where the button is but front of the turret)
  2. use the second portal to protect yourself first and go the most on the right of the room and the nearest possible of the button side
  3. now its the tricky part you have to shoot blindless a portal behind you while you walk and jump in direction of the button (if done well you will be on the lightning bridge BUT DON'T STOP TO RUN)
  4. while you run bunny hop until you reach the other side of the room (edit: its for dodge bullet from the turret)
  5. congrats you are on the other side, now dont mess up and place the right portal to get mirror cube

as I said it's tricky but i swear it's possible i just finished it and did other rooms after

I've run into the same problem, but after trying for a while I realised that the portal can be placed from the platform on the other side of the room, but you've got to point to the right place with the headset also, not only with the gun.

So amazed at this VR mod I signed up for Github just to comment. Yes, I had the same issue but found, even after placing the portal, the bridge kept appearing at the top of the new portal -- so I couldn't reach it. Finally I turned the portal gun upside down and for some reason this worked. Thus far the only bug I've found.

I unfortunately just did this level in Flatscreen, took a few seconds then back to VR again. Strange bug

It doesn't matter even if you can shoot a portal at the ceiling. The bridge will appear at the top of the portal, making it very difficult to utilize to create light bridges to cross. Ralphrainwater managed to make it work by turning their gun upside down, but it is still a bug

Alas, this is game breaking, I wish I had known before getting sucked into this game again

well sorry for that I'm not english first language, but for me I didn't put the portal from the other side where's the button is what I was doing its placing the portal before going push the button and as the bridge is on top of the portal when you jump in the same time that you place a portal you will be on the bridge tho so you can complete the room in a different way using this (its a hard way)

well sorry for that I'm not english first language, but for me I didn't put the portal from the other side where's the button is what I was doing its placing the portal before going push the button and as the bridge is on top of the portal when you jump in the same time that you place a portal you will be on the bridge tho so you can complete the room in a different way using this (its a hard way)

is there a way for you to make a video of this?

Had the same problem. Go to the platform opposite side of the room - far right side of the platform as close to the front as possible. Stand so you are over the water - just prior to falling in. Shoot an orange portal. Takes some doing but it worked for me.
