Analyze work load automatic vs manual #1

Closed amitaibu closed 10 years ago

amitaibu commented 10 years ago

Following conversation we should figure out how much content exits in each content type, and create a matrix to be able to decide what will be automatic, and what manual.

@ckorakas @adevanssay fyi^^

ckorakas commented 10 years ago

@adevanssay I think we already have that info based on Amplexor analysis

adevanssay commented 10 years ago

Ok this is more or less done, see attached if I can managed...

adevanssay commented 10 years ago

I sent you an email... word docw are not going through, as well as tables in the wiki, and explorer is not really the best tool to work on github...

amitaibu commented 10 years ago

Awesome, this makes my life easier :)

For posterity here's the link to the doc shared by @adevanssay

@adevanssay @ckorakas

I have created a new sheet with what I think can be done manually highlighted.

I have created a new sheethttps://docs.google.com/a/gizra.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0At43t2AqZZxCdC0tbVpnYnZWaTU5OGZRZUZtaENSS0E&usp=sharing with what I think can be done manually highlighted. · User links item may be also exported manually (89 nodes) · Note that the item A page Communities is still not clear to me. Maybe it's something small that can also be handled manually?

Dear Amitai,

This is still well above the initially foreseen budget and we are not yet including ADE's top up and the additional work that we are creating for manual migration.

Is there any possibility on your side to rationalise more the work. 225 hours for the export seems a lot? And for the import, the lower amount of content should diminish the amount of work, no? I will also make a few comments in the table.

Best,

Arnaud

It's actually marked there as 200 hours. Anyway, if we are wiling to take a time & means approach then we'll be able to "shave" 25% that was added as a safety-net for the fixed price. This will bring us to an estimate of 32775 eur. Also, once I'll know what A page Communities - maybe it could be done manually as-well.

And for the import, the lower amount of content should diminish the amount of work, no?

Unfortunately, the amount of content doesn't change - it's writing the logic for the import/ export that will take time.

adevanssay commented 10 years ago

Ok Amitai, well noted for the times and means.

For the export it is 225 hours if we sum all export lines.

For the import, I wanted to mean the lower diversity of content. If you have to import 6 types of content instead of 11 initially foreseen the writing of the logic should be quicker.

Best,

Oh sorry, I see what you mean.

For the import, I wanted to mean the lower diversity of content. If you have to import 6 types of content instead of 11 initially foreseen the writing of the logic should be quicker.

I see your point, however experience shows that every content type requires its own costumization. Obviously if we'll be able to save time by consolidating functionality we will do it - and that's the plan. I'm just making sure we do not under estimate the work needed for the migration.

amitaibu commented 10 years ago

@adevanssay @ckorakas

I have updated the excel sheet and reduced the import time from 200 hours to 120.

So we are looking at an estimate of €25,080 (without the 25% safety buffer) to € 31,350.00

adevanssay commented 10 years ago

Dear Amitai,

Thank you very much for the offer that is now acceptable for us. Could you please take contact with Karine so that we can have an official final offer, based on your proposal for a fixed price? Please note that the offer should contain your table, an estimated timeline, CVs and names of people who are going to do the work.

Sorry for not going for the times and means, but we will not have the time to do a detailed follow-up and therefore we prefer to go for the global price. Have a nice day,

Best,

Arnaud
