Define: "step-by-step protocol" #43

Consider updating _docs/overview.md, because

Glacier is a step-by-step protocol for storing bitcoins in a highly secure manner.

"step-by-step protocol" is not defined nor explained. And the introduction does not clarify what glacier is.

How do you interpret that phrase? What would you suggest instead? Perhaps I'm too close to it but I'm having trouble understanding what is unclear about the term "step-by-step protocol" or that sentence.

macropin commented 4 years ago

Sorry, I'm not sure. I still don't know exactly what Glacier is. I just came visiting from Google and clicked "Learn More" on the home page...

It's unclear if "step-by-step" is domain specific jargon, or a metaphor for the how the protocol works. In any case I suggest the description be reworked to avoid ambiguous terminology.

bitcoinhodler commented 4 years ago

I'm sorry but I'm still not understanding your confusion. "Step-by-step" is common English, not jargon or a metaphor.

The Glacier Protocol will walk you through, one step at a time ("step-by-step"), a process to securely store your bitcoins.

macropin commented 4 years ago

Right so what you're really saying is "The Glacier Protocol is a step-by-step methodology for storing bitcoins in a highly secure manner." ?

bitcoinhodler commented 4 years ago

Ah! I think we're getting somewhere. I'm not sure methodology is the best word; what about process?

"The Glacier Protocol is a step-by-step process for storing bitcoins in a highly secure manner."

What do you think? "Procedure" could also work.

macropin commented 4 years ago

Yeap, that makes sense to me now! "Procedure" is probably more succinct, but may in this context be confused with computer procedure/function, so perhaps methodology is better.
