support for 'new' python 3.12
up to date versions of pre-commit-hooks, flake8, isort, black
cosmetic changes that were applied automatically by the updated black version

I can't figure out why the required automatic test-builds are not starting anymore? Apart from that, I believe I fixed all errors with the environment. It's a rabbit hole. ;)

Merging this right away because working ci is a precondition for any other bugfix or change.
