Related to ticket #2

It would be nice to have documented and implemented API end points that enable 3rd party / tool data read / write

I like this and want to suggest to use BOOST from JGI/Ernst as a case study for this feature. Maybe the students would not need to start from the beginning to write a GUI but use what is there from BOOST?

BOOST does not have anything to do (yet) with historical dna synthesis metrics, but it is a good case study for using external APIs to call for functionality. What I meant in this ticket would be creating a API for DNA scanner that enables other tools to call to read/write data stored in DNA scanner.
