@eoberortner @gled0n @yashk4 @Zulko @neilswainston @njhillson I checked out what the suppliers provide. Please comment on what the workflow of actually ordering the DNA is at your institution and if it woul work for all of you that quotes forms are a plausible way to order:
Twist: I receive a Quote via email which I have to sign and upload to complete the purchase. I think this would be as well the workflow for the DNA scanner.
IDT: I can select to be send a quote which then acts as a purchase order. Again I think this would be the way to go, since I as well need to document that I received quotations.
GeneArt: Same as above. I can generate a web quote which can be signed and the order completed by uploading or emailing/fax.
The process at GeneMill (Liverpool) is that we have an open Purchase Order (PO) with manufacturers (which as I understand is effectively a guarentee that we will pay up to $x for DNA).
We can then make orders which are associated with the PO, and are invoiced on delivery.
There is no need in this workflow to generate quotes to be signed off by anyone else at Liverpool. In principle, we could make the order directly from GeneDeals.
As discussed in our conf call on Fr, Jan 31st, a cool feature of the DNAScanner web app would be to automatically generate the order sheets for one (or more) vendors. We (JGI) have some templates, but I'd suggest to also reach out to the vendors directly, asking if they could provide templates to us (DNAScanner devs).
