Given the extremely verbose nature of the decisions involved in this workflow, I think it is worth considering dropping the REMAKE approach and switching to project tracking through blogdown with robust chunk evaluation checks throughout. This has the advantage that at the end of a project there would be a full "book" documenting the entirety of our workflow and this book would be crystal clear for future users.
