Help to use Myo-Ableton #2

I have tried several ways and I can't get to control inside Live. Live recognizes Myo but it stops there. I can't find the blue hand you mention. Can you please help me on that.

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

Hej pushkhy,

Did you copy the script file on the ableton remote scripts folder?

Hello Gonzalo,

yes, I followed your instructions line by line...

To let yo know in case it helps, MacBook Pro 15" late 2011 - os 10.12.6 Ableton Live 9.7.7 Thank you!

pushkhy commented 5 years ago

Hello Gonzalo, I can see the Myo in Ableton Midi preferences but I can't see the Blue Hand in any rack. I hope this info is helpful! Thank you!

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

Sorry for the late reply, I was working abroad and got a little backed up with correspondence. It's been a long while since I've used this piece of code, virtually never, actually, because I don´t even own a Mac. Today or tomorrow I'll run Live and see if I can remember how this thing went. I'll get back to you then.

No worries! Thank you so much!

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

Hej there! Sorry again for the delay, but I'm swamped with stuff and haven´t really had much time. I don´t have a MAC, nor I have Live properly set up on my new computer yet, but maybe this can give you an idea.

Let's take a random instrument. No blue hand to the right of the name [image: Sin mano.jpg]

So, there's the file you should copy to the user midi folder. Once It's there, you should restart Live, go to MIDI preferences and on 1 using the first unused control surface, you should be able to find MYO on the drop-down list. Choose it. On the Input and Output menus, you should choose MYO, which should appear on 2 as a MIDI port [image: Preferencias MIDI.jpg]

Once this is done, your instrument should look like this [image: Con mano.jpg] And that should be it! The blue hand on the selected instrument means that the control surface you chose, MYO in this case, is in control of that instrument. If you already did all this and you have no blue hand, I'm not really sure what's going on. If you didn't, give it a try and let me know if you get any new errors or anything.

Hope it helps.

Hello Gonzalo! Thank you so much for your feedback! I can't see your attached jpgs but I understand what you mean. So here it comes: 1- the Myo-Basic folder is copied inside the Midi Remote Scripts Folder (it only has a .TXT file. I've checked on other folders and they all have .PYC files and some .SYX - I don't know if this important to mention but I am double-checking everything that can help) 2- In Preferences Panel, Myo doesn't show up in Control Surface, nor in Input nor in Output. 3- In Preferences Panel, Myo appears as a Midi Port, picture attached. Once again thank you for your help and time!! Screen Shot 2019-03-25 at 09 56 19

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

Hej, So as I see you are not using any other MIDI devices. When you say you can't find it in Input, you mean that if you expand the drop down menu, you can't see it on the list? That's weird, because you should be able to chops any input port on that list, and Myo is showing as a port. Also on the drop down list under control surfaces, can't you find Myo-Basic? What surfaces can you find? (there's always a few pre set ones)

Hello Gonzalo! My error sorry, so on the Input drop down menu I can see Myo (as Myo Midi Output Client) but I can't see it on the Control Surface drop down menu. If I select any other Control Surface, the blue hand appears but Myo is not controlling the instrument, though I can see that Ableton is receiving Midi signal. If I map Midi, signal is arriving. I think the only thing missing to have it working would be that Myo appears on Control Surface drop down menu. Thank you so much for your help and time! Screen Shot 2019-03-25 at 13 42 07

Ok, we are getting close!

I can think of two problems, that somehow the folder is not copied correctly, or to the correct location, or that new versions of Live modified somehow the type of file for this. In the first case, did you copy the contents of the folder or the whole folder. You should have the whole folder copied. That's a link with explanations, in case mine was outdated. https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209072009-Installing-Third-Party-Control-Surfaces

I'm guessing the location might be the problem, because even if the file didn´t work, by just making an empty folder with any name in that location, you should be able to see a control surface with that name, even if it doesn´t work

If the file is the problem, I'll check it later to see if there's any new versions

Hello Gonzalo! The whole folder Myo-Basic is copied in the appropriate location. Troubleshooting wise I've tried creating an empty folder called TEST and it didn't appear. Checking the other folders I've noticed that all of them have a file called init.pyc I copied one of these .pyc files into the Myo-Basic folder and it appeared. I don't have the Myo with me now to test it, as soon as I test it I will let you know what is happening. Thank you!!

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

Can you show me a picture of the other contents of the folder in which you copied the Myo-basic folder. Because there should only be two other files there, and they should both be txt. No python files there

Hello Gonzalo! I still didn't test the Myo. None of the folders have a .txt file inside (except if they are hidden files), only .pyc and a few of them .syx Here comes the screenshot: Thank you!! Screen Shot 2019-03-25 at 22 39 50

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

That's the problem, I believe. That is not the correct folder. It should be copied on this location HD:/Users/[Username]/Library/Preferences/Ableton/Live x.x.x/User Remote Scripts

Those are the midi remote scripts, and you want the User remote scripts folder

Hello Gonzalo! There was already a file with the same name in the folder you mentioned. I copied yours and kept both but still didn't get to the test with the Myo. I will let you know soon. Thank you!!

GonzaloNV commented 5 years ago

Exactly, there should be. You need to copy the whole Myo-basic folder inside of that one, so your user remote scripts folder will have three items, two txt files (one with the exact same name as the one inside Myo-basic) and the Myo-basic folder. And that's the way it's supposed to. Remember to undo all of the changes you made to the midi remote scripts folder, or you may run into incompatibility issues
