Hey! Files shouldn't be affected by a chromeos update, what version of chromeos is your user now on? Can you try opening the files in a app other then text app? maybe try opening them directly in chrome.
She is on the latest version of chrome for now but I'm not sure the number. I was able to have her look at her downloads folder and click on the files individually and she did manage to get some of her data back. Most of if seems to have been lost. Is it possible that the data just gets cached if she doesn't do an actual save ? This is looking that what happened. Like most of her pages were live and not actually saved yet and the update wiped out the cache. I'm just guessing as nothing else makes sense.
If you close the text app without saving your current work you do lose it sadly. If your user restarted their chromebook without saving that would explain the data loss.
Writing on behalf of one of my users. She updated her chromebook and all text within her saved files vanished. The titles remain but the text within said titles has all disappeared. She isn't savvy enough have have changed any default settings so where would the files be stored by default on a chromebook ? Would that location be affected by an update ? Please help
