Introduce integration tests #233

Supersedes #231

These tests cannot pass on this PR, as this test uses the test on the main branch, which does not yet exist.

Pending this PR, I can fire a manual test on this branch of the main repo to test these tests.

Also included: a fix to #228 as this was not correctly working.
