Eventual consistency is not consistent with correctness :-) And indeed, we are seeing lots of flakes. If we're going to use an eventually consistent method, we should verify the results with a strongly consistent method.

We merged #1200 a while ago, hopefully we now have enough signal as to whether that was good enough to consider this bug fixed/mitigated
