I'm excited about this. I'd like to wait to hear from Ameer before you merge.

I don't really grok how we will handle kcc after this merge.
eg, what did adding the kcc tag do?

The tag is just to be able to switch to the KCC implementation easily

(gah, i was merging main into #tf but you already did it here). making sure this branch runs then ill merge.
